How to Improve Your Restaurant Yield with the Right Booking System

The restaurant industry can be a fickle one, and getting maximum yield from every single table in your establishment is important for turning a healthy profit. You can be fully booked and yet something happens and tables end up sitting there empty. With some extra vigilance, this can be reduced.

Line Up Customers

ost hospitality managers hate the idea of overbooking, but on busy dates, it may be a sensible thing to do. A certain proportion of customers probably won’t show up, and it may all balance out in the end. If people do end up having to wait, then at least they see a popular and busy place, which can drive up your cachet a little. A free drink at the bar or some other kind of incentive will soothe any frayed tempers. It’s probably best not to disregard that anniversary party for 20 that was booked three months ago, though.

Remaining competitive is a priority for restaurants, especially in challenging times. Many popular restaurant chains have been affected by falling revenues, and for more on this read a report in The Guardian. If you have a computer system for taking bookings, some data analysis will be able to tell you when customers are most likely not to fulfill a booking.

With a computer system, you can also help reduce waiting times for customers and seat walk-ins at unused tables while waiting for other customers to arrive. If clients have to wait, a computer system can tell them how long and send them a text when their table is ready. Being mobile savvy also helps. Many customers now browse online on their devices, so make sure your website and menus are customized for mobile devices and can handle bookings at the last minute. Many restaurants now have the convenience of a glass door refrigerator. If you want to find out more about obtaining a glass door refrigerator for your premises, it would a good start to contact a reputable supplier in the trade such as https://www.fridgefreezerdirect.co.uk/glass-door-refrigeration, where you can get help and advice.

Being responsive to customers is important in the restaurant trade. Make it easy for them to book with you, have an enjoyable meal and spend the money that your establishment needs to keep operating.

Everything You Need to Know About Whiplash

While generally not too serious for most people, whiplash can be a very painful condition. Caused by the rapid and sudden movement of the head backward, forwards or side to side, whiplash results in neck strain as the muscles and tendons in your neck are stretched and damaged by the force of the motion.

Whiplash

Whiplash can occur during any activity which potentially causes your head to jerk rapidly, such as contact sports, a nasty fall, a fight or in a car accident.

This type of injury generally clears up reasonably quickly without too much medical intervention, but for some, it can really affect them for a long time. As such, it is always useful to be able to recognize the symptoms and know when to seek help.

Common symptoms

Common symptoms

The most common symptoms include neck pain and or stiffness, frozen or spasmed muscles, headaches or tenderness when turning your head. Occasionally, people also suffer from dizziness, fatigue or pins and needles in their arms or hands. It is perhaps most associated with car crashes, which has had implications for both private and motor trade insurance. For more information on how it can impact all types of insurance, there are lots of resources available, such as www.quotemetoday.co.uk/motor-trade-insurance/.

It is also worth noting that symptoms do not also always appear immediately, so don’t be alarmed if you experience pain anything from a few hours to a couple of days after the incident. Symptoms usually clear up completely after a week or so.

Home treatment

Either way, you can normally easily treat whiplash at home yourself. There is no one cure for the condition, but there are a number of things that can help aid your recovery. Keeping your neck mobile certainly helps and taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication either as a tablet or a gel can help. You can also do a range of gentle stretches and exercises to help. NHS Choices has a range of helpful information on these type of exercises.

Rarely, you may find that your symptoms do not go away on their own, or that the pain is so severe that it is impacting negatively on your life. In these cases, it is always worth consulting your GP to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.

How does a steam oven work?

In the health conscious environment of today, many people are choosing to cook with steam ovens. Steam has been used for many different tasks since the first steam engines were invented and it can be brought into the kitchen with great results.

Steam oven

According to Shape Magazine, steaming is one of the healthiest ways of cooking as it eliminates the need for fats and seals in the flavor, and when this method is combined with the benefits of a convection oven the results can be amazing.

How steam ovens work

There is a reservoir in the steam oven that has to be filled with water before cooking. Some fill automatically and others have to be filled by hand. The heat of the oven converts the water into steam. Food that is steamed usually retains more minerals and vitamins than food that is boiled. A combination of steam and convection ovens work by combining the moisture retaining properties of steaming with the benefits of convection cooking. Convection ovens use fans to push the heat around the interior of the oven giving an even temperature throughout the cavity. Food is cooked more quickly and items such as meat can be browned due to the high temperatures that are achieved.

These new ovens use both technologies in combination. Some convection steam ovens have digital sensors which determine the amount of dry heat and steam needed and control the oven accordingly.

Benefits of steam ovens

The major benefit of steam ovens is their ability to cook healthy meals, retaining all the vitamins and minerals in the food and reducing the need for fats. For diet conscious people, this is a definite advantage. Commercial combination ovens combine the best of both worlds, allowing you to roast and brown food evenly whilst retaining the juiciness and moisture.

A wide range of combination ovens is available from suppliers such as 247cateringsupplies.co.uk/catering-appliances/commercial-ovens-and-ranges/combination-ovens.

Are steam ovens really necessary?

Strictly speaking, you can manage without a steam oven. However, although they are a relatively expensive way of cooking, the benefits far outweigh the price and once you have tried using a combination oven you will not want to return to conventional methods. A combination of steam and convection ovens are widely used in catering because of all the benefits they offer, and they are also becoming increasingly popular for use in domestic kitchens.

Musings over the game of Quidditch

Each week I enjoy a nice Netball training session whilst preparing for our matches on the weekend. We often use.

Netball Training drill Videos like the ones you can see at www.sportplan.net/drills/Netball/Getting-free/Triangle-2-vs-2-TBN0059.jsp to help with our fitness and skill levels. It was after one of these sessions that I went home and whilst watching my favourite Harry Potter film I realised that the game of Quidditch is remarkably like the game of Netball – if you ignore the fact that they are fling on brooms after a magical flying ball. Ok so the main similarity is that they throw a ball through a net, but it got me thinking.

After a bit of trawling through my Harry Potter novels and some internet research I found out some interesting facts about the world of Quidditch and I thought I would share them with you.

  • In a book released entitled ‘Quidditch Through the Ages’ to raise money for comic relief, the ins and outs of the game were described, along with the fact that the golden snitch was originally a bird called the Golden Snidget. The aim of the game was still the same, but instead of catching a magical flying ball the seeker was looking to catch a real-life bird.
  • When looking into the world of witches and wizards it is thought that people were being tried for witchcraft in as early as the 1600s. In the world of Harry Potter witches have been using brooms to fly since 962 AD although the early varieties were incredibly uncomfortable and tended to have a mind of their own when it came to the direction of travel. It was after the Cushioning Charm was developed that the brooms became more comfortable and racing brooms become popular and the game of Quidditch was elevated to a whole different level.
  • The Quidditch World cup as see in the Goblet of Fire film was actually filmed at Beachy Head in East Sussex. The chalky white cliffs appear in the background for many of the shots. The location used for the film is very different to the one that Harry describes in the books.
  • In many of our modern-day team sports we are used to the matches entering extra time which c last for around an hour in extreme cases. However, the longest game of Quidditch ever played latest a total of three months. Now that is dedication for you.

3 More Ways to Give a Great In-Store Experience

As consumer retail habits continue to change in favour of shopping online, and the future still looks uncertain both economically and politically, the high street has continued to take a battering during the last twelve months.

Many businesses failed, well-known chains closed and there were plenty of job losses to boot. According to growthbusiness.co.uk, without change the high street that we have long known and loved may well become extinct. So how can stores fight back?

Time Is of the Essence

Spending time with customers and making them feel welcome and valued is something which cannot always be achieved online, and this puts stores at an advantage. Simple things like taking a customer to a product they’re looking for rather than just telling them where it is can make a real difference.

But do encourage staff to use their initiative on this one, some customers don’t want to be ushered round the store. An ability to ‘read the signs’ is important here, whether that be the customer’s tone of voice or posture, for example.

Knowledge Is Power

One thing that it can be difficult to access online is expert product knowledge and comparisons. When trying to decide between different brands of a similar product, for example, you are often relying on customer reviews. But these can vary wildly, and non-product factors such as delivery times and damaged packaging can negatively influence ratings.

Ensuring that your staff in store are well trained and have a depth of product knowledge can make a huge difference to a customer’s experience. Good signage can help too, and nowadays that generally means digital signage, but why use digital signage? Digital signage has moved on leaps and bounds over recent years. Campaigns can be deployed globally in minutes and messages can be changed instantly.

Be Open and Honest When Things Go Wrong

Things don’t always go right, whether it is products out of stock or faulty, poor service or delayed deliveries. But how you handle these situations impacts on the eventual outcome. An apology goes a long way – you don’t have to admit any liability, and simply saying sorry and acknowledging how a customer views the situation can make them feel valued. Consider making a gesture of goodwill to help put the situation right.

Top three benefits of using pallet racking in business

Any company involved in the storing and transportation of goods knows that maximising space is essential to increasing efficiencies and reducing costs. There are several ways businesses go about doing this, but one of the most effective is the use of pallet racking.

Pallet racking offers businesses a practical solution to their storage dilemmas, offering a range of benefits because they are simple and safe to use and come in a range of options to meet the needs of most company budgets.

Simplicity

Pallet racks are simple to use, providing companies with a way to store goods quickly and easily by stacking them on shelves of different sizes based on the products they are storing. Pallets can be transported around a warehouse with a forklift truck, speeding up product fulfilment and increasing productivity, leading to improved KPIs.

Space

Using pallets lets you store goods in your warehouse more efficiently, allowing you to maximise the use of space. The best way to do this is to go up, stacking pallets on top of each other using racks rather than placing them side by side. If you are looking for a supplier of racking Ireland based rackzone.ie/pallet-racking can help you design the shelving for your warehouse to reach maximum efficiency. This same approach can be used when getting goods ready to transport, allowing them to be stacked in your trucks to save space and reducing the number of trips you will need to make.

Safety

Using racking and shelving to stack your pallets is much safer for your employees and the goods you are storing and transporting than other forms of storage. They are strong enough to hold heavier items without breaking and sturdy enough to be used multiple times. In addition, racks can be secured to the floor, reducing any risk of shelving being knocked over. Pallets allow you to store goods in such as way that they are easy to see, meaning no moving boxes unnecessarily to see what is in a package. This can help prevent injuries and any potential damage to the products.
Beyond these, there are many other ways pallet racking benefits your business, including reduced warehouse and transport costs. They are something every company that needs to store goods should explore.

How to choose your VoIP provider

Choosing a VoIP provider might sound like a fairly simple task, but to avoid high calling fees and other issues, such as poor call quality and an unreliable service, it pays to do some thorough research to find out what your options are.

Telecoms is critical to your business, and you need the same diligence when choosing a provider as you’d have for an ERP system. Here, we take a brief look at some of the key issues to look for.

Reputation

A leading VoIP provider will have a good reputation in your industry sector. Look at their client list for your competitors, or firms of a similar size and global reach. Ask for case studies that show how the provider implemented a new system and what benefits the client realised.

Integrity is important, and the provider should deliver what they promise. Pay close attention to claims made during the initial sales meetings, and ask for evidence.

Any provider must have expertise in technology and security, along with business expertise and agreements with reliable partners across the world.

Call quality & reliability

An excellent wholesale VoIP termination provider, such as https://www.idtexpress.com/blog/2018/04/27/wholesale-voip-termination-choosing-a-provider will deliver exceptional call quality. However, this is dependent on your Internet connection and existing systems, so they will also help you to assess where you might experience issues.

The service should be very reliable, but the provider must always respond quickly to issues. There should be an SLA covering call quality, unscheduled downtime and recovery procedures. Scheduled downtime should be predictable and outside of your business hours.

Value

Of course, you should demand good value. Prices vary depending on the kind of service you need, and the features that are important for your business. A good provider will be able to put together a package that fits your business needs and gives you good value.

Nowadays, telephony is a key consideration for security. Businesses need to be confident about hacking and fraud, and also data protection. The International Institute of Communications recently reported on GDPR violations here: https://www.iicom.org/news/item/gdpr-privacy-violations-reported-by-enforcement-organisation.

Choose carefully

Choosing a VoIP provider is about much more than how much they charge. A good provider is fundamental to your business. A bad provider could be charging you for an unreliable service, poor call quality or worse.

There is so much more to the Circuit of the Americas than a race track.

Designed by Hermann Tilke the race track architect behind Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and the new adapted Hockenheimring, the circuit of the Americas is the home of Formula one in North America. Set near Austin, Texas it is a course of tight bends with two long straights somewhat typical of Tilke’s designs. The most exciting part is a long climb up hill at the start then downhill from a very tight left hander. It is one of the few anti-clockwise courses on the F1 calendar. There is so much more to this circuit than the track as it was always the intention to make it multi-uses site not just for the racing of cars and bikes.

It makes sense to have such an area designed for other large crowd based events as the infrastructure allows for the flow of people and their cars or public transport. The track itself reads like a “greatest hits” of other circuits. The start is supposed to be like Eau Rouge, there is a section reminiscent of Maggots into Becketts and Chapel at Silverstone, there is a loose interpretation of the Senna S at Interlagos. While this created some praise from the Drivers others craved for something originally. What else does the site hold?

The Observation Tower it has a lift or a double helix staircase of 419 steps if you fancy that, and stands at seventy metres high. The tower gives panoramic views of the site over three hundred and sixty degrees. The whole thing is based on the look of a race car and it can take up to 70 visitors at a time. One of the best ways to view this is from the US F1 Paddock Club and you can book this at edgeglobalevents.com/f1-paddock-club/f1-paddock-club-united-states

The Grand Plaza is a retail and leisure area. It has a pool and picnic lawn incorporating different landscapes. It even has some bridges over the track turns of 16 and 13 allowing the spectators to see the action for a very different angle.

The Austin360 Amphitheatre offers a space for large concerts. As the site is away from Austin and other conurbations it is not affected by noise abatement regulations, a factor built in when considering the noise from motor sport events. It holds an impressive fourteen thousand people.

The Austin Bold FC football stadium. Slotting into the space between the Amphitheatre and Grand Plaza will be the team’s new home as they start life in the USL Championship from the 2019 season (basically the Championship/ old Division two of the league here in England) after several years out of the league.

Six F1 Father and Son Duos

For these father and son duos, the world of F1 racing is a truly family affair. We take a look at some of the most famous racing parents of the past and the present, with children who followed in their footsteps – some with more success and some with a whole lot less.

The Rosbergs

Keke Rosberg was a Finnish F1 driver who competed in the early 80s. Despite not winning a world championship or major title, his son Nico took that on for him. Driving under German citizenship and not Finnish, Keke went on to win the 2016 World Championship.

The Piquets

Sometimes the story is the other way round, as it was for the Piquets. Father Nelson won three World Championships during the 80s, whilst his son Junior caused a scandal when he crashed his car into a wall at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 and failed to win any races in his career.

The Brabhams

Also failing to live up to their father’s glory were Gary, Geoff and David Brabham, Australian racers who were active during the 1980s but gained very few honours between them. Father Jack, however, will always be known as the greatest F1 driver to come out of Australia. Ouch.

The Winkelhocks

The most tragic pair on this list. Father Manfred was killed in a race in Canada in 1985, whilst son Markus was forced into early retirement after just one disastrous F1 appearance in 2007.

The Verstappens

Both father and son have enjoyed success, with dad Jos enjoying a long career from 1994 to 2003. He now mentors son Max, who is expected to achieve even greater things, with many predicting him as World Champion this year. If you want to get the best view of this somewhat erratic future superstar, then be sure to book your place at the Monaco F1 Paddock Club with edgeglobalevents.com/f1-paddock-club/f1-paddock-club-monaco.

The Schumachers

Looking forward, much is expected from Michael Schumacher’s 19-year-old son Mick, who is entering F1 this year after great success in karting and F2. Whether he can live up to being the son of the world’s most famous F1 driver is another thing. His dad, on the other hand, has expressed a preference for his son to play golf for a more stress-free life!

Selecting the right material for bonding on rubber surfaces

Rubber is a widely-used material in an array of applications that often have very particular electrical, physical, chemical or thermal properties that allow them to comprehensively meet very specific user requirements. As such, adhesives must keenly satisfy these properties whilst also providing a strong bond with another surface and/or material.

Rubber can be bonded well with similar rubber materials as well as with dissimilar materials including glass, ceramic, plastics and metals. As each material has its own unique properties, selecting the correct bonding material for any given application and situation requires careful thought and comprehensive surface preparation.

Surface finish, chemical resistance, operating temperature, impact exposure and joint design are all important elements to consider. Additionally, you might also want to think about cure speed, strength, resilience, colour and conductivity when you are seeking out the ideal adhesive materials for your project.

Obtaining consistent rubber bonding

Surface preparation is key to optimising adhesion between different rubber surfaces. As this article explains, degreasing, chemical treatments and abrasion are all effective preparation techniques and in some instances, primers can also increase the capabilities and performance of bonding agents. It is important to carefully remove any dirt or grease as this can interfere with the adhesive and negatively impact its performance.

Adhesive bonding or mechanical fastening?

As adhesives will spread the load in a uniform fashion across a joint, stress is kept to a minimum. As well as being an ideal choice for weight reduction, adhesives are also extremely durable, deliver superior sealing capabilities and can overcome a variety of problems that are often associated with bonding irregular shapes.

Importantly, manufacturing techniques and adhesive technologies have advanced significantly in recent years. Until relatively recently, for example, metal bonding adhesive options had been limited in both number and performance. Polymer adhesives like http://www.ct1ltd.com/product-applications/metal-to-metal-adhesive/, have provided a viable alternative solution to bolting and drilling, and rubber bonding adhesives are also delivering valuable alternative solutions in a range of situations.

Uses for rubber bonding adhesives

The physical properties of rubbers make them a practical and desirable option for use in a variety of specialised industries including the medical, power, automotive, electrical and aerospace fields.

From valves and gears to pump linings, escalator handrails, vehicle tyres and weather stripping, the bonding of key rubber components plays a significant role in delivering peak performance despite demanding conditions.
